The British had passed through Lexington to get here because of the ammunition being stored in the farm at this site. They got as far as this bridge before being driven back to Boston. The Minuteman Statue in the background was erected in 1876 on the centennial of the battle. This is not something you see everyday. He was standing on this pole about 15 feet in the air. There are four guys from the crowd keeping some ropes taught to keep him from crashing to the ground. He is keeping up a constant banter with the crowd while juggling various sharp objects. Gotta love a good street performer.

hawkeye978 > This is Nubble Light on Cape Neddick in southern Maine. It's no longer a working lighthouse but is maintained by Kittery Maine. The lighthouse actually sits on a small rocky island and the only way over is either by dingy or a cable to haul supplies across.

hawkeye978 > Ok, this is a bit like backdating a check, but I like the picture and only took it a couple of days ago. This is within an old summer camp that had been used for years to bring kids in from Boston for the summer. It went up for sale a few years ago and to prevent development my town bought the whole thing. It's now open for recreation. This is the main lake at the center of the area. Amazingly clear and pollution free.

Trying to get back into the swing of things here after long absence.

This is a small stream on the way to work. I liked the early light and by shooting RAW was able to retain a lot of the sky detail along with the darker areas.

hawkeye978 > First of my Daily Photos. We'll see how long I can keep it up. I'm trying to improve my skills and I think the only way to do that is shoot all the time with some sort of goal in mind. Right now I think my composition skills aren't very good. Just grabbing photos without thinking.

My wife's gardens are perfect subjects to start. Here is a Dogwood tree that is in peak bloom.

Small history lesson. This is a picture taken in the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston of the Liberty Bowl and the famous portrait of Paul Revere. The Liberty Bowl is considered one of the three great symbols of the American Revolution, the other two being the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution.

When the British Parliament passed the Townsend Act in 1767 (this is the act that taxed tea, among many other items) the American Colonies became incensed in that they were being taxed without any say in the matter. The Massachusetts House of Representatives passed a resolution declaring the Act 'unconstitutional' and authorized a letter to be circulated to the other Colonies demanding the Townsend Act be repealed. The British Royal Secretary of the Colonies demanded that the Royal Governor of Massachusetts go to the House and demand they rescind the resolution and letter otherwise he was to dissolve the Assembly. The House debated and declared no taxation without representation and then voted overwhelmingly not to rescind. This is considered the first act of defiance by the Colonies which eventually led to open conflict on April 19, 1776. The Sons of Liberty in Massachusetts commissioned Paul Revere to make this bowl commemorating the act of defiance and presented this bowl to the Massachusetts House soon after their vote.
